Tools
Since 2003, Plastek LLC has strived to provide repair products that work with the majority of tools available in the marketplace. Plastek LLC does not hold special or financial interests in tool companies or providers. While we do not align ourselves with any particular tool company or brand, we do insist that only the most reliable tools be used in conjunction with EZCLEAR products. Using quality tools with EZCLEAR products will help ensure the best possible results are obtained.
The EZClear Hangar/Depot and Field Support - Aviation Launch Kits include all the tools and accessories needed to complete repair. There are four different tools provided in each of the kit models:
Alpha Model – 110V Heavy-Duty Polisher, U.S. Army qualified tool.
Bravo Model – 110V Light Weight Corded Tool for on-frame applications.
Charlie Model – 14V Battery Cordless, Light Weight Right Angle Drill, with 3 XRP batteries and charger. (One aircraft will require three battery charges)
Delta Model – Heavy-Duty Polisher European 220/230 V version of US Army qualified tool.
Depending upon your intended application, each tool provides a different repair capability. We suggest that the user approaches a repair with a tool that he/she is comfortable with. Some tools have limitations in terms of their design, power, speed, and battery duration. It is a decision that should be made by the operator. We suggest that the user finds a tool that provides 1,000 rpm in a consistent manner, whose motor can remain in constant operation for one hour, and that does not create heating issues that may affect the operator’s safety.
Our product development team is available to answer any questions you may have regarding polishing tool. Feel free to contact us.
Heavy-Duty Electric Variable Speed Polisher:
A heavy-duty, electric variable speed polisher is the preferred tool. Through field testing and other research, we have found that heavy-duty polishers yield better results in less time. It is preferable to use a polisher with electronic speed control to avoid over speeding that can cause distortion.
RIGHT ANGLE DRILL – CORDED/BATTERY OPERATED
A right-angle drill may also be used. This tool will require you use the spindle adapter – provided in the Launch Kit– to adapt the Backing Plate to the tool. While the right angle drill has a less powerful motor than the above heavy-duty polisher, this tool is light weight and can be used on-airframe without causing excessive arm fatigue.
The right angle drill can be either corded or battery operated. A corded tool will deliver more consistent power throughout the procedure. However, the battery tool will offer more mobility and allow you to repair your aircraft windows virtually anywhere. The batteries have limited duration; to maximize power and ensure RPM settings remain around 1000, recharge the battery after 10 minutes of use. We recommend that at least two batteries be brought to complete an EZCLEAR repair assignment. We suggest using a minimum of an 18V battery tool (preferably one with an XRP battery for extended battery performance.)
ORBITAL TOOLS WILL NOT WORK WITH EZCLEAR PRODUCTS! We do not guarantee results with these tools.
