Tools

The EZClear Repair & Restoration Kit requires that you utilize a tool in order to generate effective results. A right-angle, electric polisher is the preferred tool. Through field testing and other research, we have found that heavy-duty polishers (the same type of tool you would use on your automobile to buff the clear coat) yield the most effective results.

Since 2003, Plastek Corp has followed a product development process that aligns with existing tools available in the marketplace. Plastek Corp does not hold special or financial interests on tool companies or providers. Our products have been developed so that they are used as part of an overall system solution that includes reliable and dependable tools that can be used in conjunction with our products.

To date, over 127 different types of tools have been used and tested along with our products. Our website suggests tools that have worked well with our products and do not show performance symptoms at cold temperatures or create excessive heat on the handle that may affect the user’s safety.

The large corded tool includes an electronic variable speed control. This is highly suggested to use to avoid overspeed issues that can cause distortion effects.

The small corded tool is a lightweight tool that can be used on-airframe without causing excessive arm fatigue. It does not provide electronic speed control. Its motor is less powerful than the large corded tool motor.

The cordless tool provides mobility across the field and in urgent jobs. It does not provide electronic speed control, and the batteries have limited duration. It is recommended that at least two batteries be brought to complete a repair assignment.

We suggest that the user approaches a repair with a tool that he/she is comfortable with. Some tools have limitations in terms of their design, power, speed, and battery duration. It is a decision that should be made by the operator. Plastek limits its comments in terms of providing attributes for the tools that have provided consistent repair data across our proprietary repair database.

We suggest that the user finds a tool that provides 1,000 rpm in a consistent manner, whose motor can remain in constant operation for one hour, and that does not create heating issues that may affect the operators safety.

Our product development folks are available to answer any questions you may have regarding polishing tool applications. Feel free to call our office.

Note: Orbital sanders will not yield results.
